Your Solar Plexus Chakra & Your Health: Gut Instincts & Digestive Problems

Do you trust your gut instincts?  Can you just know when you should do something or when you should avoid something altogether?

In ancient medicinal systems, the gut was considered your lower source of intuition- hence the concept of a gut instinct.

For your third chakra, Manipura, it is all about that gut instinct and your digestive system.

It’s location is clear enough- located in the solar plexus- between the bottom of the breastbone and the navel and its organs are those involved in all actions of digestion and excretion.

Accordingly, a balanced chakra will result in strong and steady digestion, ease and consistency of excretion as well as optimal functioning of the liver, pancreas, spleen, stomach, gallbladder and the organs of elimination.

There will be optimal absorption and integration of all nutrients from the food you put into your body when in balance.  Because of these basic functions of the digestive system, we can also draw a correlating line from the Solar Plexus Chakra to that of energy production and the storage of that energy.

Food is the source of energy, right?

This chakra is incredibly straightforward, just like your stomach is when you’re hungry.  There is no ignoring a growling stomach.

Imbalances in this power center are also straightforward in the physical sense- digestive problems, stomach acid issues, ulcers, upset stomach, diabetes or even a tight, hard protruding belly or potbelly.

Less straightforward imbalances are seen as extreme mood swings, low or no energy,  the need to manipulate others, feelings of powerlessness, apathy, lethargy or loss of determination or willpower.

As straightforward as the physical imbalances may be and as not straightforward as the emotional imbalances may be, this chakra is intimately associated with energy and power.

Let me take a small step back.

We know that food is the main source of our energy.

We eat the food.  Our bodies digest, absorb, store the nutrients and eliminate the waste products.

What is one word that can describe all of the above processes?

I choose the word “Transformation”.

Our food is transformed into something that can be used by our bodies for energy- so we can move, so we can think, so we can act and react.

Transformation could be used as a one word description of our Solar Plexus Chakra.

Combine this concept of transformation and relate it to the idea of power.

What are you capable of transforming when you are in balance?  What are you capable of doing or being when you are in balance- when your capacity for transformation is optimal?

The easy answer- anything and everything.

When you are in balance in your third chakra, you have the power of transformation at your fingers.  Anything is possible.  Everything is possible because you have given yourself the energy source to do so and you have been able to step into your power because of that energy.

Does this make sense?

So how does it relate back to our health?

Simple.  When you are in complete assurance that you are capable of anything, you tend to take positive steps forward to accomplish your goals.

You want to lose weight? No problem.  You understand that you are capable of it.

You want to have a healthier relationship with food?  Okay, that’s possible.  You can see that you are capable of addressing those underlying causes.

When you are in balance, you do not do things that will sabotage any positive steps you are taking in order to improve your health.

You don’t blame yourself.  You don’t blame others. You step up and find it possible to do the things that need to be done.

Your body will tell you what it needs and when it needs it.

All you need to do is learn to trust your body and learn to trust yourself.

This chakra is all about learning to listen, learning to understand and then stepping into that understanding.

Your gut will tell you.
