Are You a Resolution Kind of Person?

How many of us, year after year, attempt the same old New Year’s resolutions with the same old results?

It doesn’t have to happen that way any more!  We can actually take those resolutions, those “If I could just do it this year” lists and turn them into reality.

The problem is that we take these lists and plans and don’t really know how to follow through on them.   We have the best of intentions but really no one to hold us accountable.

Here is one way to make sure that your resolutions don’t go by the wayside before February 1st.

Tips & Tricks to a SMART and REALLY happy New Year:

1. S: Make your goals specific.  Know exactly what you want or what you want to do.  If you don’t know, get clear before you make any changes.

2. M: Make your goals measurable. How do you know if and when you’ve accomplished your goals?  If there is no clear way of knowing, if you can’t see your progress at 255, 50% or 75% of completion, then how are you going to hold on to 100%?

3. A: Make your goals attainable.  Are you aiming too high and therefore just setting yourself u to fail?  You can chose to start small or start big, but whatever you choose, make sure you can get there!

4. R: Make your goals realistic.  If you are aiming high, make sure that in your body today, it is a realistic goal.  You cannot lose 30 pounds in 2 weeks, that is, unless you cut off a limb.  Know your truth!

5. T: Give your goals a time-frame.  The quickest way to get off the New Year’s Resolution wagon is to not give yourself a completion date.  Saying “I want to get healthier” is a great start, but if you just leave it at that, then you’ll almost always end up right where you started.
